Alcohol the exotic poison, yes used since ancient times for intoxication. Alcohol addiction is one of the most severe common causes of many diseases caused by the side effects of this chemical on the human body. It is true that this social mood lifter turns into a deadly poison when it's consumed in abnormally large quantities. It is said that only the weak minded fall for this poisonous trap, but that is totally untrue. Social pressure, family problems and money matters are all responsible for alcohol addiction and women are as affected as men.
When we discuss alcoholism physical symptoms, we have to understand that the symptoms begin in different individuals at different stages depending on the body sensitivity. Some are affected rather early while others are symptomless for many years on end. The target organs giving rise to the alcoholism physical symptoms are basically the liver, pancreas and the stomach; all other organs get affected as a consequence.
Alcoholism physical symptoms includes liver dysfunction, this is one of the major organs involved. In the initial stages the liver gets inflamed giving rise to minor jaundice like symptoms including nausea, yellowing of skin and mucous membranes like sclera and dark coloured urine. Liver is one of the main organs of the body for secreting bile which helps digestion and many other metabolic functions like processing clotting factors. When the liver is affected all these functions get affected leading to malabsorption, added to this the nausea reduces the appetite giving rise to malnutrition. The final stage of the liver disease is cirrhosis of the liver which causing scarring and permanent destruction of the liver cells. Alcohol also reduces the capacity of the liver cells to regenerate, making this an irreversible damage if not corrected in time.
The next major alcoholism physical symptom has to be hyperacidity, this may not be fatal but it is one of the initial and most irritating symptoms for the addict. This is the symptom which acts as a warning sign telling you that the body cannot take any more or too much of the poison and the wise can take this warning sign to stop the body from suffering from any more alcoholism physical symptoms.
Pancreatitis caused by alcohol can be of sudden onset, with very sever pain in abdomen landing the patient in hospital. The pancrease secretes enzymes which help us in protein digestion, when the pancreas is affected by alcohol it gets inflamed and is one of the most painful symptoms of alcohol abuse.
One of the most visible and destructive effects of alcohol are those on the brain and nervous system, since it is an intoxicant it changes the mood of the person. These mood changes make the person violent and even self destructive at times, it is during these episodes that many acts of physical violence occur. A person under the influence of alcohol is not in his senses, thus making him or her unfit to drive or perform any skilful act.
